This site is dedicated to my previous German Shepherds, Elkay who passed away at the age of 12 from mammary gland cancer and her daughter, Antje passed away also at age 12 from stomach cancer. A friend moved with her son Ansel so I'm not sure what he passed from and age. All three dogs were awesome protection trained dogs and received police dog training certificates from Heinz Peters, may he rest in peace. He was the owner/trainer of Hundeausbildung School for Dogs in Elverta, CA where he trained civilian dogs as well as San Francisco K9s, Sutter County K9s and Placer County K9s. Heinz was from Berlin and had bred and trained German Shepherds for over 40 years. This is where I spent my training 3 days a week from 1986 through 1997. I was introduced to schutzhund in 1997 but then moved to a part of Alaska where there were no training clubs.
So then started my research as to why do dogs get cancer? Why is it so common these days for our beloved pets to have diabetes, thyroid issues, allergies, auto immune diseases and more. Especially when we are feeding them high quality kibble, taking them for their annual check ups at the vets office, getting them their regularly scheduled vaccinations, treating them for every ailment with prescribed medications and antibiotics. What could possibly be going wrong?
My research brought me to where I am today: raw feeding a prey model diet, which means, feeding as closely as wolves would eat in the wild. We feed primarily venison scraps from butchers, friends, family, co-workers. So our 5 German shepherds are eating 80% muscle meat, 10% bone and 10% organs (5% liver & 5% kidney). They are also fed a daily raw egg mixed with fish oil and they are naturally reared. We feed our two elderly dogs ages 11 and 10 glucosamine, chondroitin, msm daily mixed in their eggs for stiffness and see a big differnence in their flexibility as compared when they are not supplemented.
All of our dogs are 100% raw fed, prey model and are naturally reared. No chemicals, no pesticides, no processed food. Our next planned litter will be with Britta. Our goal is to have generations of healthy, titled working dogs, raw fed, naturally reared. We are one of few German Shepherd breeders in the United States whose dogs are raw fed and naturally reared.
Please come back and visit our site often as I will be constantly adding pages and links dedicated to the health of dogs!
